About Sharmila Nicollet
Sharmila Nicollet was born on 12 March 1991 in Bangalore, India. Her father, Marc Nicollet, is French, and her mother, Surekha Nicollet, is from Bangalore. Surekha is a perfumist with her own Padmini Aroma Ltd in Bangalore, while Marc is a software professional.
Sharmila started playing golf at 11 and soon showed her talent and passion. She won her first tournament at 15 and turned professional at 18. She has represented India in many international events and has won 11 titles on the Women’s Professional Golf Tour of India.
Early Life
Sharmila grew up in a multicultural family and was exposed to different languages and cuisines. She attended Bishop Cotton Girls’ School and Sophia High School in Bangalore. She pursued a degree in psychology from Mount Carmel College in Bangalore.
Sharmila was inspired by her father to take up golf as he was an amateur golfer. She joined the Eagleton Golf Resort in Bangalore and trained under Tarun Sardesai. She also received guidance from Anitya Chand, a renowned golf coach. She soon became a prodigy and won many junior and amateur tournaments across India.

Sharmila turned professional in 2009 and joined the Women’s Professional Golf Tour of India (WPGT). She dominated the tour and won four titles in her rookie season. She won four more titles on the WPGT and topped the Order of Merit for the first time in 2011.
She also qualified for the Ladies European Tour (LET) through the final stage of the qualifying school in Spain. She became the first Indian woman to earn a full card on the LET.
In 2013, she suffered a shoulder injury that hampered her performance on both tours. But she continued her excellent form and won two more titles on the WPGT.
The year 2022 was a historic year for her. She wins her first major title at the Evian Championship in France. She is ranked second globally and aims to win more majors and represent India at the Olympics.
